Introduction:
Kullu district is located in the northern part of Himachal Pradesh. Except for few months in the winter the climate of the district remains salubrious whole of the year. Agriculture is the main stay of the economy. About 80% of the population of district is engaged in agriculture and its allied activities. The district is one of the leading districts in the production of fruits. Out of the total geographical area of the district area under different fruit production was 24,229 hact. and the production was 1,11,544 tonnes in the year 98-99. Due to the hilly terrain and bulk of work force engaged in agriculture and its allied activities the district has failed to achieve the desired level of industrialisation.
