| Introduction:

The District is largest in size in the state with an area of 13835
sq. km. It is located in the north- eastern part of Himachal Pradesh.
The district is bounded by the district Kullu in the south, Kangra
in the south- west, Chamba in the west J&K State in the north
and Tibet/ China in the east Agriculture plays an important role
in the economy of the district. Due to the adverse climatic factors
horticulture is playing a negligible role in the economy of the
district. Efforts are being made by the department of Horticulture
to introduce the early Variety of plants to boost the production
of apple. Due to the geographical factors the district is industrially
backward in the state.
